With 16 teams in major U.S. cities, the league will play its games in July and August with a championship tournament in Las Vegas in September. With over 160 players, including many All Stars, it will be the nation’s first professional league exclusively for players from the NBA, and it will feature the greatest basketball available in the months of July and August.
Team ownership includes exciting perks – owners get to attend practice for free, sit in the premium owners’ sections, use of an owners-only door and owners-only parking, the ability to attend holiday and team parties, discounts on special tickets, merchandise and parking, player meet and greets, fan own access to management conference calls, and even the chance to win the opportunity to be an assistant coach for a game. Owners can sit courtside and attend the hottest basketball events of the year, including an owners party with the team at Clyde’s Wine and Dine, Walt Frazier’s NYC restaurant.
“When launching the team, we knew that what fans wanted more than anything was to be treated like an owner,” said Carl George, CEO and President of the Champions League. “So we created the opportunity where fans could be owners, with the amazing perks ownership implies. This is actual ownership, so fans become owners along with our founding team owners, so it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans to be more connected than ever before to a professional sports team. Fans for the first time can profit from ownership as well as enjoy all the special perks that only ownership can bring.”
The Gotham Ballers boast a roster with former NBA players including Al Harrington, Kenyon Martin, Shawn Marion, Kareem Rush and Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. Featuring a Hall of Fame front office that includes New York Knicks legends Walt “Clyde” Frazier and Earl “The Pearl” Monroe. The team is part of Champions League Basketball, playing a summer season in 16 markets around the country.
“New York fans love their New York sports teams and this an opportunity for the league and the players to return the love,” said John Wallace, coach of the New York Gotham Ballers. “The chance to be an owner gives fans more access than they have ever had before, including the ability to attend practices for free, travel with the team through purchasing travelling tickets, player and fan meet and greets, VIP tickets and even exclusive owners’ merchandise. It is a revolution in sports.”
Champions League games are designed with the fan in mind, featuring athletes in the stands, a youth pre-game shootaround on court with the pros, post-game meet and greets, contests to win game merchandise and more. The league is hosting multiple exhibition and charity events gearing up to a 16-team launch in 2017.
